Start October - November and we know the festive season is upon us! Yesterday was Diwali too - Happy Diwali BTW =] and I am sure your Diwali parties started last week and will probably go on till next week. Along with that, for some reason A LOT of people tend to get married in the November - February phase and when it comes to attending Indian weddings there is always the question "WHAT TO WEAR"
I recently attended a massive massive Indian Punjabi wedding and if you have me on SnapChat you would have seen what a crazy affair it was! And till the end of the year I have three more weddings to attend - in fact, I am leaving for one in the next 4 days! So I thought it would be cool to do a Festive Season post and show you guys what I decided to wear for the most typical functions which are likely to be there in almost all Indian weddings.
Mehendi or Henna night has got to be one of the most important pre wedding ceremonies. For the bride, it is an iconic symbols to show that she is getting married as she fills her hands and feet with beautiful designs made from henna. It is ideal to wear something colorful and playful for an event like this. Nothing to heavy or too light but the main thing is colorful
I thought wearing this super cute pink sparkly skirt and top from India based designer Sonia Sawnhey would be perfect for the Mehendi. I paired it with a heavy maang tika, white stone bracelet and rings from Dubai based jewelry designer Shimmer Kreation. My makeup here is done by the amazing MUA Ayesha Farooq who chose to give me a soft look with a well defined eyeliner. Hairstyle is done by Koshaa Vora who chose to do a middle parting with a big of a puff at the back to make sure my hair accessory sits properly on my head.
If you have ever attended an Indian wedding you know this is the most talked about event. Everyone is really excited for this one as it is known to be the most fun filled event and people usually save their heaviest outfits for this one.
I know the colors of my outfit are rather soft and pastel, but I feel like the work and overall look makes it heavy enough for an event like Sangeet. This outfit is from Calcutta based designed The Pink Mirror. I chose to pair the outfit with complete Kundan jewelry again from Shimmer Kreation. Koshaa decided to make a side fish braid for me and Ayesha added some glitter in my eye makeup to match the glamness of the occasion
The Pool Party
Chances of an event like a Pool Party or an afternoon brunch in a 2 or 3 day Indian wedding are quite high. This is the mellow event of them all if I may say so. It is chilled out, laid back, during the day and does not require you to wear a 5 kg outfit with 2 kilos of make up lol :P
I chose to wear this simple yet elegant short dress from Debenhams - it was a lace off shoulder dress in emerald green and I wore slightly big gold coin earrings from Shimmer Kreation as well.
Have a look at those earrings
This is the actually when the marriage takes place aka the most important event of them all. The dress code for this event in almost all weddings is traditional. People tend to get their best outfits for this one too.
I thought it would be interesting to wear a bright color like orange since it is so festive. I wore an Anarkali by Abhinav Mishra which I ordered from Pernia's Pop Up Shop. I don't think anything dark would be appropriate for a day event like this. I chose to pair it with massive dangling gold earrings by Shimmer Kreation again and since the dress code is traditional, its cute to put a little sparkle with a bindi right?
What starts well must end well and to wish the couple a beautiful life together, there is always the GRAND Reception. Most receptions either have a dress code which is Indian Formal (saris for women mostly) or Gowns and Bowties. I cannot wear a sari because those just do not flatter my body type so 99% I will choose to wear a floor length gown to a reception
I chose to wear this deep blue custom made gown by Dubai based designer Ishana Tolani of Eyshism. I didn't go crazy with my accessories as there were too many stones on the top half of my dress. I just wore a statement Ear Cuff by Shimmer Kreation. Ayesha made sure I looked the part for the night event and gave me a gorgeous blue smokey eye with nude lips. Koshaa thought my gown and jewelry need to shine and so she thought keeping my hair all on side with soft waves would be ideal and I couldn't agree more!
Hope you got a few ideas on what to wear for any upcoming weddings you may have for the season! Oh! and in 3 nights I am off to another friend's wedding to India so add me on SnapChat - @niggiphulwani to see what I am wearing to this one!
