This place can teach you how to make KUNAFA! Say what?
September 4, 2016
So I am hoping most of you know what Kunafa is and get as excited as I do every time I hear someone say it! It is definitely one of my favorite desserts from the Arab world. For those of you who do not know, Kunafa or Kunafeh is a popular dessert from the Levant that typically has a layer of cheese topped with a layer of pastry in sugar syrup on top. If you haven't tried it, please do so NOW!
But this post is not about Kunafa, it is about a super cool way of how you can learn how to make Kunafa and many other dishes from the region. Al Maeda is a popular restaurant serving impeccable dishes from the Levant, located in DoubleTree by Hilton, JBR. I recently was invited by Monicaof Do In Dubai to attend the first ever cooking class at Al Maeda under the guidance of Chef Lawrence and I don't think I have had a more fun filled day. The other bloggers at the session were The Vegetarian Soul, MegsBlogged, OmNomNirvana, Engineer with Flair. Keep in mind, I have never cooked a thing in my life and I cannot express how proud my mom is of me after I told her about day. Wait till you see all the things we cooked and I am sure you will pat my back too next time you see me =]
Although the typical class allows you to prepare 1 of each starter, mains and dessert, we made 2 main courses (1 veg and 1 non-veg option). I am not going to share any of the recipes here because you must enroll in the class, have fun and see Chef Lawrence's way of cooking these yummy dishes! We made Loubieh Bel Zeit (Beans with Oil) for Starters and Vegetable Kawage and Kousha Mahshi for Maincourse as you can see in the image below
Oooh and Dessert? Yes! That's the image of the gorgeous Kunafa we made. I know looks too good to believe that it was made by us but hey! you can do the same too! Damn look at that baby!
So anyway, a few details about how the cooking classes work
- Every Tuesday from 12:00 - 2:00 PM
- 1 Starter, 1 Main Course and 1 Dessert
- Maximum of 10 students per class
- Priced at AED 199 per person
- An additional AED 50 per person if you want to get Pool & Beach access
- The hotel also has a Kidz Venture Club (a fun play area for kids between 5-12) in case you want to make sure your kids are occupied in the hour that you are taking the class
I think the cooking classes at Al Maeda make a great outing for Mums who want sometime off (specially with the kids area just next door), a couple who likes to cook and enjoy the pool and beach for a minimal price or even a group of girls who want a fun activity to do!
To enroll for their classes you can get in touch with them at 055-166 8092
