For those of you who do not know, Patiala by Kunal Kapur is an Indian restaurant in Souk Al Bahar. I went there yesterday to have lunch to try their Set Menu. Honestly, I did not go with the intent of trying their set menu but it just seemed more cost effective. The set menu was priced at AED 99, but the a la carte dishes are all above 120.
Anyway, they have both 3 and 4 course menus in vegetarian and non-vegetarian priced at AED 99. The 4 course menu is called the Classic Menu and the 3 course menu is called the Innovative menu (no naan or bread; I find this weird cuz I am typically Indian; Need that naan with the Chicken dude)
The above image were the starters. The white plate is from the Classic menu and had an appetizer each of Lamb, Chicken and Prawn. The black plate is of the Innovative menu and the starters had Lamb, Scallops (first time trying and I did not enjoy it much) and Chicken.
Starters Round: Classic was better than Innovative
Since the Innovative menu was one with 4 courses, there was a Chicken Soup - nothing fancy honestly - totally skippable!
So the dish you see in centre is what came as the main course for the Innovative Menu - see what I mean by No Naan? There was Palak Soya [didn't like it :( ], A mushroom dish (really good) and Chicken Makhani style dish (also really good)
The Classic menu included everything around - So lamb biryani with raita (yummers), black Dal, Palak Soya again :( and Achari Ghost (Another Lamb dish)
This course also Classic Menu was better and more filling than the innovative menu
Last but not the least, sweet endings! Classic Menu had Kulfi, no points for guessing who won this round lol. Innovative Menu had something called "Bhapa Doi" which was something like a steamed yogurt (Doi = Dahi = yogurt); it was a bit too sweet for me!
All in all I enjoyed the Classic Menu more :) and extra points for the restaurant for the dreamy decor and lights #TotsFellInLove
PS They serve alcohol during the day as well - it is at an additional cost duh!
